In the various incarnations of this live experiment, the hum of fluorescent lights was used as both sound source and as an effect to process various sound sources. Listen:

"Kyle had a motorized toy part precariously balanced on what I remember to be a jagged piece of plastic board; it was all somehow moving and generating sound, and it sounded terrific."
This cantankerous machine was "played" 7 times in 2010, each time in 5-inch heels. The motor (taken from an especially violent foot massager) fell to pieces by show 6 and the heels by show 7.
